My husband, Wade, and I have wanted to start a business together since we were dating. We craved independence, ownership of our work, and above all: financial freedom. After eight years in the Army, it was time.
and have a passion for bringing out their unique (and often quirky) features! At Maqua, Wade, and I implement a buy-flip-and-hold strategy. We buy houses that need love, renovate and restore them, then rent them out to great tenants!
We believe that the relationship between a renter and landlord is based on trust. The landlord trusts that their tenants will treat their property with respect. The tenant trusts that their landlord will provide them a safe, functioning home with responsive service when there is a problem. At Maqua, we place the highest priority on that trust. Every property we renovate and rent is brought to the standard that we hoped to find when we were renters. And after pouring our blood, sweat, and tears into our properties, we love each one and invite you to love them too! In exchange, we do our best to be the landlords we always hoped to have when we were renters.
You can follow us on our adventures in the Blog section, or you can become part of our story when you rent Maqua.
Call me a sucker, but whenever I see someone asking for money, I want to help. I know it’s often a scam, but I can’t help but think, “If I ever find myself in a really bad situation, I hope someone would be willing to help me.”
When I was discharged from the Army in Korea, Wade and I went through several tumultuous months, trying to put the pieces of our lives together. Thankfully, we had a support system of friends and family who wouldn’t abandon us. We lived in a friend’s camper in their driveway for two and a half months while sorting out our lives. We were saved by the kindness of others.
But what about those who have no one to fall back on? Maqua aims to help fill the gap by donating 5% of its profits to the Center for Veterans Issues in Milwaukee. This organization offers so many amazing services to struggling veterans, including housing, vocational training, treatment for PTSD and addiction, and this is just scratching the surface. I urge you to check out the difference they are making in our community at www.cvivet.org. They are also working on an innovative redevelopment project you can check out at www.veteransmanor.com.
